Our beloved furry friends are very important members of our family,
and it is very important to protect our pets and keep them away from any harm! We
know that we shouldn’t feed them certain foods and we know not to let them
outside without a lead, but what gets overlooked the most is electrical
hazards!
Some animals are drawn to colourful wiring or anything that may look like a ‘toy’. Keep your pets safe from electrical hazards by following these 5 tips and tricks!
1. Keep wires away from Pets!
The absolute best way to keep all your pets safe from electrical hazards is by keeping them away from the cords and wires themselves! Make sure they are tucked away and not sighted! However, if you can’t hide the cords, we would recommend using a cover to conceal them!
2. Unplug the cord when they are not in use!
Protect your pets by unplugging all cords when they are not in use, most outlets are lower to the floor and in direct sight of our furry friends! If you do not need that appliance on, you should unplug it! Not only will this keep your pet safe, but you will also be saving $$ on your electricity bill!
3. If you have a heater.. Make sure it’s not left unattended with your pets!
Our furry friends love to take a nap right by any type of warmth! They may look cute snoozing next to your portable heater, but they are not always safe! If they are too close and knock over the heater or bump into it, they can receive burns! Keep your pets safe by using your AC to heat your home!
4. DO NOT leave your electrical appliances next to the water!
Now this one is common sense… for some! Pets who love taking baths and getting washed by their owner, but make sure any hairdryers or mobile phones or anything that is plugged in and electric is right out of reach! Make sure they are unplugged or completely out of sight of your furry friend!
5. Have a safe play area!
Majority of our furry friends love to play outside in the sun or the comfort of their own space! Make sure you have a secure fence around your home to make sure our pets stay safe and with us! If you have any lighting or AC wiring outside your home, make sure the cords are high up or out of sight!
