Pat Curran, Director of Curran recently spoke to students at Lake Illawarra High School as part of the EDGE Schools Workshop program.
The EDGE Workshops at schools across NSW help disengaged kids who want to leave school achieve their career goals and get them job ready. Creator of The Edge programs Sharna Dawson, who grew up on the South Coast, says, “It’s our job to point them in the right direction of fantastic employers.” The workshops are designed to increase the knowledge and employability skills of teenagers.
Sharna brings in a team of experienced employers from different areas and they contribute by offering tips on joining the workforce and chat with groups of students looking to leave school about their future prospects.
Curran has taken part in the program before and Director, Pat Curran says that engaging with today’s students is a valuable exercise. “It’s important to sit down and discuss issues like what employers seek, what will make the transition from school to work easier for young employees, and mutual respect.”
Curran is a family business that has operated in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Sutherland Shire for more than 30 years and the award-winning company is in the process of expanding with roles for staff at all levels including apprentice plumbers.
Pat Curran says, “Plumbing offers a really good career that pays well and can take you places. Over the years I’ve watched many young people transform their lives through their commitment to learning the trade.”
