Making a few small changes in your everyday life and the way you use energy can make a massive difference to your next energy bill!
Your lounge room/ family room
- Switch appliances off at the wall – computers, game consoles, and TVs still use bigger amounts of energy even in standby mode. When these appliances are not in use, switch them off at the wall!
- Use lamps or spotlights – If you only need a small of light use lamps or spotlights instead of your overhead main lighting.
- How many lights are on? – Remember to always turn your lights off that you are not using!!
The Kitchen
- When using your microwave oven – If you are defrosting any food, Thaw it first in your fridge to reduce cooking time! And using a microwave can reduce the use of energy compared to an actual oven!
- Use your kettle to boil water first before using your stove! And saves time cooking!
- Only run your dishwasher when it is full! This will also help save water as well!
The Laundry
- Only run your washer and dryer on full loads! It is best to wash your clothes in the cold war and spin them thoroughly before drying them!
- Use a clothesline instead of your dryer! This can save you a lot of $$!
The Bathroom
- Try and install water-saving showerheads in your home if you can! This will reduce the amount of hot water and energy used within your home!
- Have 5 minutes or less showers! If possible!
- Switch off appliances! If you’re not using the hair dryer or electric toothbrush, turn them off!
Outside
- Use programmable timers or sensors to lighten up your outside when using it!
- If you love to have a bit of light throughout your garden or walkways, consider buying solar-powered lights
Heating and Cooling
- Close the doors of unused rooms to reduce the energy in the area you need to cool or heat.
- Keep your curtains or shades shut to reduce the energy needed to maintain a comfortable temperature.
- Make sure you are having your AC serviced at least once a year to maintain efficiency within your AC!
