A family legacy built on quality and care
The Curran story dates back to 1950, when Pat Curran’s father established Caringbah Plumbing and James D. Curran & Sons Plumbing Services. These businesses serviced the entire Sutherland Shire, building a reputation for reliability and excellence. In 1978, he purchased a farm in Berry, where Pat and his siblings—his brothers and one sister—worked. Pat remained on the farm until 1983 when, at just 18 years old, he started his first apprenticeship with his father at Caringbah Plumbing. His two eldest brothers also worked for their father, while one brother stayed on the farm.

Pat’s apprenticeship lasted five years, culminating in 1988 when he moved to Botany to work for another plumbing company. By 1990, he had earned his plumbing licence and launched his own business, PD Curran Plumbing, in Gymea on 25 March 1990. Notably, Pat was one of the first trade business owners to introduce a professional uniform, ensuring his customers saw him as part of an established, trustworthy company. Over time, PD Curran Plumbing evolved into Curran Plumbing, Electrical, Heating, and Air—the comprehensive home service provider it is today.

In 2000, Curran secured contracts for Defence Housing and Defence Maintenance Management, expanding its services across Nowra and the Shoalhaven. Seven years later, in 2007, Sid Curran joined the business as an apprentice plumber, learning the trade and becoming an integral part of daily operations.

By 2010, Pat and Kerrie identified a gap in the industry for exceptional customer service. They shifted the business focus to residential plumbing, seeking out industry best practices and coaching to refine the customer experience. This dedication to improvement led to the opening of a Bomaderry office in 2012, allowing the team to grow and better serve the local community. That same year, Curran began working with Nexstar, which provided valuable training in marketing, customer service, and business development. This partnership enabled the business to expand further and refine its approach to delivering outstanding service.

As demand for Curran’s services increased, the business expanded into the Illawarra region in 2014, purchasing an office in Albion Park to provide greater support to customers in the area. By 2016, Curran had firmly established itself across the Shoalhaven, Illawarra, and Sutherland Shire, delivering top-tier service to homeowners.
In 2021, Jane Curran joined the company, bringing with her a Bachelor of Science (Environment) with Honours and a successful career in leadership across both private and government sectors. The following year marked a significant milestone, as Pat and Kerrie retired after more than 30 years of leadership. Ownership of Curran transitioned to Sid Curran, and Jane Curran who remain committed to upholding the family legacy of service and professionalism.
That same year, Curran expanded beyond plumbing, becoming Curran Plumbing & Electrical and introducing residential electrical services. In 2023, air conditioning services were added, further enhancing Curran’s ability to provide complete home solutions with the expert customer service that clients have come to expect.
